Norman Mailer Society Conference 2009

The Norman Mailer Society Conference was held in D.C. this year, the first time (for me) our of Provincetown. While it was a good conference, attendance was down, and Mike Lennon stepped down as president in order to focus on his biography of Mailer. Congratulations our new prez, Mark Olshaker. I think we’re back in P-town next year.

My paper was “Faust, Mailer, and the Comfort of Evil.” It’s really just a thought piece, as my original idea for a part two to last year’s film was not possible. Still, I like the connections I make in the essay.

I posted my photos from the conference and from around the capitol.

On a similar note: we published our third volume of The Mailer Review for which I acted as Deputy Editor. The issue is gorgeous and chock full of Mailer goodness. Get your copy today.

The recent Norman Mailer Society conference was held last weekend in Washington D.C.

Not only did I present a paper, but I was one of two official photographers. The weather was not great, so my outside shots are a bit dull because of the overcast sky. However, the room at the Members’ Room of the Library of Congress provided a pretty good backdrop for portraits.

Be sure to check out the rest of the gallery.

Chris and Heather have their first dance at a wonderful reception.

The reception was a challenge because of the low light. However, I did manage to capture some serendipitous moments. Overall, I think the reception photos capture the mood pretty well. Be sure to look at the gallery.

Recently, Autumn and I went to Vegas to shoot Heather and Chris’ wedding. Here are a couple of photos from when we were off-duty.

This is the first time either of us had ever been to Vegas. Not only did we dig the strip and all it had to offer – OK, not all, but much of it – we took some time to check out Hoover Dam. Who knows when we’ll be back again, right? check out all the photos in the Vegas gallery.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jay, his mother Sam, and his father Jason on Friday evening for a short session.

Jay was a very personable and creative model – a great little guy to work with. It was a cloudy and cool evening, but I think we managed to get some good shots of Jay and his parents. Thanks for giving me the opportunity, guys.

The gallery shows some samples from the session on Flickr, since the real gallery is password protected.

I’m not a particular fan of the fair. I never was growing up in Florida, and I certainly am not here in central Georgia. However, I must admit that photographic opportunities abound. If I go, I take the camera.

The Georgia National Fair is held every year in Perry, about thirty miles south of Macon. Autumn and her family go at least a half-dozen times, and I usually go with them once, unless I’m out of town for a conference or there’s something good on the Food Network that night. Here are some shots from this year; you can see more in the gallery.
